Best calorie tracking apps: an honest comparison
Published
This article was written by the NourFit team, and NourFit is our app. Facts about the other apps come from their official websites and App Store listings as of 3 November 2026. We didn’t test the other apps ourselves. Features and plans change, so check them before you download.
There are plenty of calorie tracking apps, and most work the same way. You log your food, the app adds up the calories and shows what’s left of your target. They differ in their food database, language, what’s free and how quickly you can log a meal.
NourFit starts one step earlier, when you choose what to eat. Before you order, it shows which dish at the restaurants around you fits your target. Below you’ll find what each app offers according to its official sources, and who each one suits.
How we compared
For each app we read its official website and its listing in the Slovak App Store on 3 November 2026. NourFit’s facts come from the app itself, version 1.0. We haven’t used the other apps, so we don’t judge how easy they are to use or how accurate their calorie estimates are.
We don’t compare prices, because they differ by country and offer and change often. The App Store or Google Play always shows the current price. We also didn’t compare privacy. Read each app’s policy before you sign up.
The tables hold the facts. Where something is our opinion, the text says so.

NourFit: it picks the dish before you order
Most apps tell you how many calories were in the food you already ate. NourFit tells you which dish to have. It reads the daily lunch menus and regular menus of about 4,800 restaurants in Slovakia, estimates calories, protein, carbs and fat for every dish and compares them with your target for that meal.
Every nearby restaurant shows its best dish for you with a match score out of 100. The menu is sorted by your target, and the High protein, Low fat and Keto tabs sort it again. On the map, each pin shows the calories of your best dish there. The app takes the 14 EU allergens, your diet and foods you don’t like into account.
In our view, that’s where eating out is decided. In our analysis of Slovak lunch menus, the lightest and the heaviest main on one menu were typically 464 kcal apart. Logging more precisely after the meal can’t fix that gap. Choosing well before it can. More in how many calories are in a restaurant meal.
You log what you ate with one tap on +, and food from home by photo or by typing. Progress shows your day, week and month. You don’t need an account.
The other apps
Kalorické tabuľky
The best-known calorie counter in Slovakia and Czechia, with a large database of food from local shops (its international name on iOS is Calsia). If you cook at home and buy packaged food, it’s a strong choice, and barcode scanning is free according to its App Store listing. We found no recommendation of dishes at nearby restaurants in its official sources.
MyFitnessPal
A widely used tracker with 20.5 million foods, restaurant dishes included. Barcode scanning, Meal Scan and custom macro goals are Premium features according to its website. The app isn’t available in Slovak or Czech.
Yazio
A calorie counter with intermittent fasting and meal plans in its paid tier. Its App Store listing names the barcode scanner as part of the free app, and the developers confirm an AI photo feature in a reply to a review. It has Czech but not Slovak.
Cronometer
For people who want more than calories and macros. Its listing says it tracks over 95 vitamins and minerals from a verified database of 1.1 million foods. Photo and voice logging are part of Gold.
Lose It!
A weight-loss tracker with a daily calorie budget and 50 million foods, including popular restaurant meals. Photo logging, voice logging and barcode scanning are Premium features.
Which app suits whom
- If you often eat out or have a lunch menu in Slovakia and want to know what to order, choose NourFit.
- If you want to lose weight or build muscle without counting at lunch, NourFit sets your target and sorts the dishes for you.
- If you cook at home and log packaged food from Slovak shops, Kalorické tabuľky or Yazio fit, with NourFit for lunches out.
- If you track vitamins and minerals, Cronometer is built for that.
- If you want an English app with the biggest possible food database, look at MyFitnessPal or Lose It!.
You don’t have to pick just one. NourFit needs no account and logging is optional, so you can use it only to choose lunch.
Where NourFit falls short
To be fair, NourFit has no barcode scanner and no large database of packaged food. It doesn’t track vitamins, minerals or exercise. Its restaurants are in Slovakia only, mostly in Bratislava, Košice, Žilina and Nitra. Restaurant calories are estimates, so the app shows how confident each one is.
If you mostly eat at home and want detailed ingredient logging, a general tracker will serve you better. For eating out in Slovakia, NourFit is the app that actually helps you choose.
What’s free in NourFit and what needs Pro
NourFit is free to download on iPhone and needs no account, and an Android version is coming soon. For free you see the 10 nearest restaurants in each view, plus 3 more favourite places. You can open the full menu of 5 restaurants a day. Lunch menus show as lists of dishes with calories, fit and allergen warnings. Logging is unlimited, Progress covers the current week, and each week you get 3 photo estimates and 3 typed AI food checks.
Pro unlocks every restaurant and menu, lunch-menu dish details, lighter versions of dishes, the Ask tab for questions about a menu, unlimited photo estimates and your full Progress history. The App Store shows the price.
